Guiding Your Girls Toward Spiritual Growth
January is always a natural time for reflection, a chance for people to evaluate their lives and set goals. But many resolutions get lost or set aside when life gets too busy or there is no accountability. How can we as leaders help our girls set goals for their spiritual growth that lead to real change in their walk with God?
It starts with intentionality. We can encourage them, guide them, and most importantly, make time to walk through the process with them. When girls set goals alongside leaders who are invested in their growth, they are far more likely to succeed.
Here is a plan to equip your volunteer leaders to come alongside their girls and encourage genuine spiritual growth.
Evaluation
Start by giving the girls time to evaluate where they are spiritually. Use the following questions as a guide. Then have the girls go outside and find an object that reflects where they see themselves in their spiritual walk. Allow each girl to share her object and explain why it represents her.
When did you feel close to God in this past year?
Where did you grow the most in your faith this year?
Who had an impact on grow spiritually this year, and how?
What did your time with God look like this year outside of church?
Was there time this year where you struggled in your faith? What did you learn?
What is your biggest win this year in your walk with God (reading your Bible, praying, or memorizing scripture)? What is one thing you wish you had done differently?
Setting Goals
Next have the girls answer the following questions to identify areas where they may need to set goals. Then ask each girl to choose one specific thing she will focus on this year to strengthen her spiritual walk. Encourage them to share this goal with the group.
What areas of your faith do you want to grow in this year? How will you do it?
How can be more intentional in your time with God this year?
What is hindering you from growing spiritually? How can you change that?
What is one spiritual discipline you would like to grow in this year (Bible reading, worship, or serving)?
Who do you need to involve your spiritual growth this year? How will you do that?
Are there friends or classmates who do not know God yet or who need encouragement? How can you show God’s love to them and share the gospel this year?
